Prague will host wind orchestras from all over Europe
On the 15th and 16th of February 2019, the 21st annual of 'The International Festival of Wind Orchestras Prague' will take place in our capital.
The festival will include wind orchestras from the Czech Republic, Sweden, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Austria and Germany. There will be a competition of the orchestras at the Hotel Pyramida and public performances in St. Nicholas Church (Kostel svatého Mikuláše) in the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí). Lovers of wind orchestras really have something to look forward to. Additionally, admission is free of charge.
Competition for amateur ensembles
During the festival, which has a long tradition and a great reputation, amateur wind orchestras can participate without age restrictions, provided that they meet the conditions of participation. There are four categories for harmonies, fanfare orchestras and brass bands taking part in the competition: lower class, middle class, upper class and top class. For each category, a specific composition, which the orchestras have to include in their own competition playlist, will be assigned.
The highlight of the festival
On the final evening, the results will be announced and there will be an awards ceremony. Afterwards, all the participants will play F. Kmoch’s composition ‘Muziky, muziky’ together. The festival takes place under the auspices of Prague City.
