City of Prague acknowledges blood donors at Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) gala concert
The Czech capital wants to thank blood donors by inviting them to the first of three Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) concerts at the end of September. City representatives and representatives of the Czech Red Cross Regional Organisation (CRC) will also receive the Jánský Gold Medal, which is traditionally given to donors who give blood 40 times. Subsequent concerts are scheduled for February and May next year.
150 blood donors from Prague blood transfusion stations who have reached the ‘golden’ forty blood donations will meet this year for the first time in the Church of Sts. Simon and Jude (kostel sv. Šimona a Judy) in Prague 1. The concert is an act of gratitude from the City of Prague and the Czech Red Cross for their exemplary deed. The evening’s music programme will consist of the well-known ‘A Little Night Music’ by W. A. Mozart and ‘Symphony in D Major’ by Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek. After the concert, Gold Medals will be awarded.
“Blood is very rare and is often scarce in hospitals throughout the country. That is why it is important not only to motivate potential new donors, but also to respect current ones. These donors rescue human lives and do not ask for anything back. I believe that appreciation by the means of the concert and the medal awarded is the least we can do on our side,” Milena Johnová, Prague Councillor for Health Care, says.
The capital also plans to reward the most active donors with free public transport for 12 months.
Blood can be donated in Prague at collection centres at the Royal Vinohrady Teaching Hospital (Fakultní nemocnice Královské Vinohrady), Thomayer Hospital, General University Hospital in Prague, Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, and the Military University Hospital Prague
